weirdo
i don't know how this guy's spine works, but it's a lot more flexible than mine. found bruno napping in between the sofa & chair...
mountain dog
we're planning on hiking a stretch of the appalachian trail once it gets a bit warmer. probably sometime in may. and we figured bruno's going to be carrying his own weight. so we decided to get him a backpack a bit early, so he can get used to it. also we can use it on walks to drain his energy more -- a big factor in getting this thing early...
so he didn't really know what to think. he was a bit apprehensive, but when we took him out on the walk, he was doing alright. it definitely slowed him down; he was pretty much walking right next to us the whole time. he managed to pee with it on, which was a biggie.
so, definite success.
i'll have to load him up and try and get some pictures of him outside. it's really quite adorable...

umstead park
we went for a quick hike this weekend in umstead park. it's a pretty nice state park halfway between durham and raleigh, so it's only a 15 minute drive to a trailhead. laura went with tracey last weekend and said it was pretty crazy (lots of people with dogs), but i guess we went early enough to only see a few people. of course bruno wanted to say hi to all the dogs, and now he's getting more vocal about it. and he was also pulling like a mule. i think he must have some alaskan husky in him -- you chain him up and he's just a pulling machine. at least our new leash has a bungee, and you can whip him right back to you (as in photo #2...

walk, anyone??
so, it seems the dog sometimes just doesn't feel like going outside for a pee or a walk. thought these pictures were kinda funny (two different occasions)...

bruno vs. newspaper
so, one of bruno's favorite activities when locked up in the bathroom with too much energy is to take it out on the newspaper. he thrashes the heck out of it and then passes out. it's annoying to clean up, but kinda cute...
(and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than books and furniture)
the other day, he was being a little brat, so we tossed him in the bathroom like normal. except this time we didn't hear any paper being ripped up. thought it was a breakthrough until we saw this:
he's getting pretty big as well, eh?

other breed?
so we know bruno's got a lot of boxer in him, but we're not sure what the other breeds may be. did a couple of searches online and i think he's probably part lab, like his aunt shiloh.
here's some boxer/lab mix puppies. what do you think?

more bruno shots
little guy's getting quite a bit bigger. he gained five pounds between vet visits (about 2 weeks apart)...

snow!
so it snowed last night. in north carolina?!?
we've got at least an inch on the ground and it's still coming down. hopefully all the crazies drive nicer today.

bruno portraits…
so we brought back laura's dad's old nikon camera from puerto rico. the camera's at least 30 years old, but the lens mounts on our new nikon digital SLR. the focal length is a bit different (50mm isn't the same on a DSLR), but it's a very fast fixed lens (f1.4), which means you can take some nice low-light photos. and since it's so fast, you get the cool blur around everything that's out of focus.
anyways, i was just playing around with some shots of bruno around the house...

meet bruno :)
so we adopted a puppy today...
here's bruno, a boxer mix that we got from the animal shelter. so far he really enjoys chewing things and peeing on the carpet. hopefully a bunch of rawhide bones will help with the first and time will help the latter.
i'm sure there will be more images to come.
