mountain dog

we're planning on hiking a stretch of the appalachian trail once it gets a bit warmer.  probably sometime in may.  and we figured bruno's going to be carrying his own weight.  so we decided to get him a backpack a bit early, so he can get used to it.  also we can use it on walks to drain his energy more -- a big factor in getting this thing early... :)

so he didn't really know what to think.  he was a bit apprehensive, but when we took him out on the walk, he was doing alright.  it definitely slowed him down; he was pretty much walking right next to us the whole time.  he managed to pee with it on, which was a biggie.

so, definite success.

i'll have to load him up and try and get some pictures of him outside.  it's really quite adorable...

boxes underway

well, it was a beautiful weekend, so laura figured it was time to start sanding away at the boxes.  we've got seven all screwed together, with enough wood for two more boxes.  problem is the other plywood is really warped.  they've been sitting in a moist pillowcase under some weight for a week plus, but it's not really working.  so we figure might as well get cracking on the rest.

so she went at it and got all seven sanded down with some medium then fine sandpaper.  we'll be staining them sometime soon and see what we're left with.

anyways, here's the carpenter at work:

new laptop!

whoohoo, got me a new laptop.  well, laura let me buy a new laptop, but same end result.  it's a dell inspiron 11z, 11.6" screen, dual core processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive, with windows 7 home premium.  all for just under $500 (or $250 when you factor in the gift card we grabbed from our credit card points).

after taking off the crapware that comes pre-installed and loading up my software, he's running really nice.  battery life is estimated at 6.5 hours, and that seems to be a pretty good estimate.  overall, i'm quite pleased (bruno couldn't care less, of course).
